New to LED lighting? Don't worry, we have you covered. Below are some useful tutorials, how-to's and some great resources about LED flexible strip lights.

Remember, ALWAYS consult a professional before any installation. These are guides and not to replace professional opinion. Serious consequences such as fire and death may arise from improper installation. Enough of the legal protective clauses, onto the fun LED installation guides:

1.  Choosing the correct power supply for your LED flexible lights

LED Power Supplies for strip lighting - LED flexible strip power supply

Choose what size you need-3 easy steps to finding your correct power supply

Since our LED lighting products are customizable and come in different sizes, the power supply you need will depend on the LENGTH and TYPE of the LED flex strip light you are using for your project. The correct power supply needed for your LED lighting project is easy to calculate. Look at the charts below to see which power supply you need.

Step 1  Which LED strip light brand will you use?

The first step is to choose which flexible LED strip light you are going to use for your project.

Step 2- What length of LED strip light do you need (by the foot)?

Step 3- Use the charts to figure out which LED strip light power supply you need.

Use the key below to see which power supply you will need. Look below and find the number of feet you are going to use. Then look across to the final column for the recommended LED power supply to use.

The power source needed depends on the length that you cut the LED strip. Let's use the 150 LED RGB strip light as an example: Each foot uses 2.2 watts. Add the amount of feet together, multiply by 2.2, and you have the wattage used. You should add 20% more room in the power supply so take the wattage, and divide by .8 to get the power supply needed.

Example. 8 feet of RGB LED strip light. 8 X 2.2 watts = 17.6 total watts used. 16.7/.8= 22 watts. You need a power supply that will handle 22 watts.

 2.  How to install and control RGB color changing LED lights

Skill Level Needed: Beginner/Intermediate

Note: ALWAYS consult an electrician before doing any electrical installations. This is a guide and is not to be used as a replacement for a licensed electricians services.

Installing RGB color changing LED light strips is not a difficult task. Depending on the length desired and the length of the RGB LED strip light. Below are the items you will need:

1.RGB color changing LED strip light at desired length
2.RGB LED remote control
3.RGB LED Solderless Connectors
4.LED Strip Light Power Supply
5.Optional: DC Coaxial Solderless Connector
Choosing the correct LED power supply:
Our RGB LED strip light uses 12 volts and 2.2 watts per foot. So, if you want to install 13 feet of RGB color changing LED light strips you will need a power supply to handle 28.6 watts.  Remember watts divided by volts equals amps! So a simple computation will tell you which power supply you need.

So : 28.6 watts / 12 volts = 2.38 Amps

You will need a 4 amp power supply for the above example.

The RGB LED Remote Control and Its Functions

The end of the 2 and 4 amp power supplies have a Male DC coaxial connector. You can purchase a Female DC Coaxial connector to connect to the power supply then into the positive and negative terminals of the LED RGB Remote Control or you can simply cut the male DC coaxial end off the power supply, strip, and screw the wires into the remote.

From an 8 or 10 amp power supply which has a metal housing, you need to connect the power chord to the positive and negative AC terminals (when unplugged, obviously). Note: Be careful!!! Do not touch these terminals as you will electrocute yourself. Attach a wire from the positive and negative DC terminals and screw them into the RGB remote control.

Installing the LED RGB color changing strip light from the LED RGB remote

From the RGB remote, you will need to connect the LED RGB solderless connector. If you need to add more distance between the RGB remote control you can purchase extra RGB wire and then butt splice, use wire nuts, or electrical tape to connect the RGB wires to the LED solderless connector.

View our section on How To Install Solderless Connectors for a clearer view of how to do this.

You are done!

If your lights do not light up:

1.  Color does not always matter! Make sure you are follow the positive side of the flex strip down through the solderless connector wire to the power supply. Red/black can either mean (+) or (-) depending on what side of the fLED flex strip you have hooked the connector up to.
Please visit our Flexible LED strip Light section to choose which color and light intensity you want!

2.  Another common problem is that the solderless connector may be installed upside down, repeat steps above and try again.

3.  Also, MAKE SURE the tray is closed all the way. Be gentle!

4.  Check your power supply and make sure it is hooked up correctly and correct + and - too.

2.1  How to install RGB LED strip lights under a counter

Easy how to guide: How to install under cabinet LED strip lights Installing
LED strip lights under a cabinet our counter is very difficult and should be avoided at all costs. Just kidding. Whether you are an avid do-it-yourself person or someone who does not know the difference between a phillips and flathead screw driver, LED strip lighting installs under counter are very easy if you follow the steps.

What will you need for your under cabinet LED strip light install? (VIDEO BELOW)

1. A clear picture of what you want the project to look like and some imagination. You can do just about anything with LED strip lights.

2. Your LED strip lights. Choose what color and brightness you need for your under cabinet LED strip light install. For task lighting and for lighting under cabinets that require high brightness, our Ultra Bright LED strip lights are recommended. For normal kitchen or accent lighting installs, our Colorbright LED strip lights have 600 LEDs per reel and are sufficient for almost all under cabinet lighting situations.

Save money and purchase in an LED lighting Kit. Everything you need, almost 20% off.

3. A power supply. Our LED power supplys are UL listed and top of the line. Which one do you need? We have a chart here. To figure this out, you need to first decide how many feet of LED strip light you will need for your under cabinet install. Colorbright series uses 3.3 watts per foot. So, 3.3 watts X how many feet = total watts. Take total watts and devide by 0.8. This will give you the total watts of the power supply you need. Take that number and divide by 12 to get the amps. (or 24 of you are using 24v LED strips).

Example - 8 feet colorbright strip light under cabinet install - 8 feet X 3.3 watts = 26.4 watts. 26.4 watts / 0.8 = 33 watt power supply needed. How many amps? 33/12= 2.75 amps

4. A power drill (if you wish to hide power supply in cabinet like video below)

5. LED Solderless Conectors and Coaxial for LED strip lights. Installing LED lights under cabinets is made much easier with solderless connectors. Here is our LED solderless connector install guide - enjoy.

6. Some electrical tape, optional LED dimmer, and thats it! Our LED dimmers give you the ability to... well... dim the LED lights from 100%-0% brightness.

NOTE: Consult an electrician before any install. Also there is a step in this video that can be made a lot easier if you got a female DC coaxial connector! Makes installation easy.
